A-1 Tree Serive & Stump Removal - Treating every job, big or small, as if we are working on our own home.

Tips

We hope you find the following tips useful.

  1. Avoid heavy watering of landscaped areas containing native oak species.
  2. Heavy trimming (pollarding / nubbing) is not advised during times that are too close to approaching warm weather.
  3. Planting trees in areas of “hardpan” or planting them too close to a house will result not only in a major surface root problem, but may also damage concrete foundations, walkways and driveways.
  4. Grinding out exposed surface roots from trees will not kill the tree if done properly.
  5. Avoid topping large, older trees when possible. It results in several smaller limbs growing from the cut area. These limbs will eventually reach the length of the original, larger branch, and they will be weaker and more susceptible to breakage in the wind or under a snow load.
  6. Seal all open wounds or orifices in tree trunks, as they attract debris, insects and bacteria, all of which can accelerate a deteriorating condition in the tree that can outpace the tree’s natural healing process.
  7. Trees benefit from annual fertilizing, just like your lawn.
  8. If ivy is allowed to grow up a tree, it will eventually kill it.
  9. Before planting young trees too close to each other or next to your house, consider how large the tree will become when it reaches maturity. You may later end up having to remove a perfectly nice tree that could have lived a longer life.
